LA MUSIQUE

This is based off of Matisse's piece,

"La Musique" (1939), for Nova & Mali's "Classics...But Make it Gay" Kickstarter project.

Matisse has been quoted as saying his intention with art was to create "something like a good armchair, which provides relaxation from physical fatigue," and when I looked at this painting, I saw a narrative thread that was easy for me to key into: the intimacy of a private afternoon, and the vulnerability and affection behind playing someone a piece of music.
